Farmsgiving

Gather, Give, and Grow Together to Support Our Local Food System…

What is Farmsgiving…

and why we need your support!

Farmsgiving is Forsyth Farmers' Market's unique twist on the popular "Friendsgiving”, which began as an informal gathering for those who couldn’t travel home for Thanksgiving, has evolved into a meaningful tradition celebrating community, friendship, and gratitude. At Forsyth Farmers’ Market, we’ve embraced this idea and created Farmsgiving a way for our community to gather in celebration of local food and give back to support the farmers, growers, and producers who nourish us.

Who can host a Farmsgiving and when can the event take place?

You can host a Farmsgiving event of your own….and help to grow a healthier, more sustainable food system for everyone in our community!   Whether it’s a laid-back backyard potluck, a chili cookoff, or an elegant sit-down dinner, the event design—and budget—is entirely up to you. Invite friends and family to share a meal, and, in exchange for your hospitality, ask them to contribute to the Forsyth Farmers Market

While you can host your event anytime during the year, many participants prefer the "Giving Season," from November to February, when gatherings are more frequent. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, a winter holiday, or a celebration of warmth and light in January and February, your event can be a perfect time to bring people together for a great cause.

Your gathering is not only an opportunity to enjoy a shared meal but also a way to help create a more resilient food system. Every event directly supports Forsyth Farmers' Market's mission, from our Saturday Market to the Farm Truck 912 and 912 Food Farmacy programs, making fresh food accessible for all.

Here are a few suggestions to help you get started:

  • Set Your Own Fundraising Goal: Aim for $250, $500, or $1,000 — whatever feels right for you and your guests.   Every dollar raised makes a difference.

  • Invite Contributions: Ask your guests to sponsor a plate, a dish, or simply contribute what they are comfortable with. Donations can be made easily through our secure GiveButter portal

  • Farm-Fresh Focus: We encourage you to source ingredients from our Saturday Market to spotlight local produce and showcase the farmers you’ll be supporting.

What Will Forsyth Farmers' Market Provide?

To help you create a successful event, we offer the following support:

  • A 2024 Farmsgiving Resource Guide featuring recipes using fresh, local produce.

  • An easy to use donation page on our GiveButter portal for secure contributions.

  • The option to request a staff or board member (including our Executive Director), or even one of our vendors, to speak at your event, if your fundraising goal is at least $1,000.

Once you have decided to know, let us know your time and date….we would love to encourage you as your date gets closer!  We’d also love to thank you, share your pictures on our social pages, and perhaps feature your fête in an upcoming newsletter!
